circus skills training in schools

Circus Skills For Schools & Youth Groups

As Solo Circus I provide quality, well planned circus skills workshops for primary schools, secondary schools and youth groups nationwide.

However many children you have at your school there is always a way to schedule a day or week so that everyone has some fun and gets to learn some circus skills in a positive, enjoyable and safe environment.

Circus skills workshops are always a great addition to the school day for pupils and teachers. As part of a health week to encourage exercise or as part of a P.E. lesson, there is always chance for teachers and assistants to have some quality time bonding with pupils doing a really fun activity. Circus skills workshops are also a great activity for weekend boarders or as a treat for a class/year or even whole school!

The Circus skills workshops I run for schools and youth groups usually start with a length of time which is divided into short sessions in which a circus skill is taught. Everyone learns the same circus skill at the same time. This really helps to aid learning by not over challenging attention spans and focusing on learning one skill at at time. An example of this is a two hour circus workshop divided into four half hours. Four skills could be taught…ball juggling, plate spinning, diabolo and tight rope/balance skills.

Circus skills workshops can also be run as a drop in style, with a fun, instructional demonstration at the start. Participants then try different circus skills as they please. This is ideal if a school wishes lots of children to have a short taster session. It is the best way for lots of children to participate throughout the day. In the past I have managed to provide up to 6 taster sessions in one day, with up to 30 children in each session.

All of my circus skills workshops include fun demonstrations throughout in which I use my teaching and also performance expertise to make activity educational and fun.

Exactly how I run depends on your needs – how many children and over what times. I usually work to a rule of two hours circus skills in the morning and the same again in the afternoon. With up to 30 participants per circus workshop, I can be flexible either way to some degree.

Circus skills offered…Ball and Club Juggling, Devil Sticks, Hula Hoop, Diabolo, Plate Spinning, Object Balancing (on hand, chin, nose and head), Hat Manipulation, Cigar Boxes, Wire Walking or Tight Rope, Stilt walking and Unicycling/pedal-go.

Sessions can end with children being encouraged to show off their new skills to the rest if the group.

Solo Circus has £10m of Public liability insurance and holds an enhanced DBS certificate. A risk assessment can also be provided if required.
